Nokia Messaging v10.1 Showing Up In Software Update

Nokia Messaging 10.1I refreshed the Software Update application on my Nokia N97 today and was greeted with the availability of Nokia Messaging v10.1, a 2.1MB update. The Nokia Messaging team has not made any announcements of a new version, though there is word that they’ll have some sort of new announcement this coming Monday.

After installing on my N97 and rebooting, all my settings and emails were intact, though the application did not receive any visual changes, as far as I can tell. I checked the settings, and noticed that I am still only able to download the last 3 days’ worth of emails, which is unfortunate. It would seem as though this is a small maintenance release, but it’s still recommended that you download and install it, as I’m sure it addresses some bugs somewhere.

UPDATE: I’ve gotten confirmation back from the Nokia Messaging team that this is simply a maintenance release, fixing a few bugs and improving stability. There are no new features or anything, but you should still update, anyways.

    The real question is does this update eliminate the memory leak that eats up phone memory. And if so, do I need to uninstall the previous version first to reclaim the lost memory?

    I haven't noticed any difference, honestly. I reached out to the Nokia Messaging team to see if I could get any details, haven't heard back from them yet – I'll update if/when I do.

    Is this an update? I'm a little confused. What version number does it show on teh about screen.

    I have been using 10.1.0.13 since September and when I go to Sofwtare Update I only get the “N-Gage application 1.30″ available. Not sure why this still show this when it's dead.

    well as I said before, the main difference that I saw on my 5800 was that nokiamessaging have much better performance on my device. nothing else I noticed

    I know there's an update in the pipeline as they let me know a couple of days ago, but not sure if this is it.

    To the second part of the question if it were to sort out the memory leak issue, which I know they're working on, I would strongly suggest uninstalling first and rebooting before installing the next version.

    Ya, the downloading of emails from the last 3 days is damn annoying. In fact, even if u have set it to download 1 month I still get only a couple of day's emails on my #E71.

    Don't havbe the option on v10.1.0.13 or 10.1.0.26. Fixed at 3 days. Not user changable. This is the case for S60v5 at least.

    Interesting. . . Unistalled Nokia Messaging 10.1.0.13 to check what I would then be offered in Sofwtare Update and for me it's “Nokia Messaging 10.0″.

    Gone back to http://email.nokia.com to request download sms again for re-install. Downloaded version is 10.01(26) or 10.1.0.26, so is an update from 10.01(13) or 10.1.0.13. Waiting to see the difference.

    I have notice one change: In the previous version it was not possible to display google Mail alerts in correct html. Actually I never saw any html Mail although Nokia said they can display html Mails. Since yesterday the google Mails are displayed correctly and have also kinetic scrolling. For me this was new and I use Nokia Messaging over 6 month now.

    For the Version: I thought I hab 10.1.13 (Not sure about that) before and now it is 10.1.24. So I would not expect no much.
