Today, Opera released new betas for both its Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 web browsers. Opera Mini 5 is a java-based browser that is capable of running on nearly any phone on the market, while Opera Mobile 10 is specifically designed as a native application for both Symbian and Windows Mobile-powered smartphones. The new betas include Opera Link support to easily synchronize your bookmarks (provided you’re using Opera as your desktop browser), as well as a ton of bugfixes and stability improvements.
These new versions have a more polished look and feel, as well as an improved downloads manager and speed dial feature. Both use Opera’s own onscreen keyboards for touchscreen devices, and I personally like them both much better than Symbian’s default onscreen keyboards. When using Opera Mobile 10 on the Nokia N97 (or N97 Mini), unfortunately there’s no way to disable the onscreen keyboard, even when you have your hardware keyboard out.
The first beta of Opera Mobile 10 had severe RAM-usage issues, specifically on the Nokia N97. After a bit of testing, it seems as though they have significantly improved this, so that even opening large websites seems to be much more stable, and I am able to run Gravity and Opera Mobile 10 at the same time.
