Favorited. Thank you! This should make things much easier I think. Touchscreens can be pretty annoying sometimes.

It does refer to the download as a free DEMO. Any ideas on the limitation or restrictions, etc.

  • http://www.symbian-guru.com khouryrt

Yeah, did the same with me. I'll wait and see how this turns out when they send me the email.

Isn't this the same as Swype?

    http://www.swypeinc.com/

I'd rather hold off for an S60 release from them, as the guy behind swype invented T9 (I think?)

Well my e-mail's arrived and refers to it as:
    * SlideIT keyboard for Symbian S60 5th edition.
    * Version: 3.1.2.1 Demo – beta

I'll try it out later. Did notice that it has three attachments to the e-mail:
    Symbian sign application (application/octet-stream), 2 K
    SlideIT for Symbian (application/octet-stream), 35 K
    Dasur (application/octet-stream), 28 K

When I get the chance to download teh e-mial and files later today I'll figure out why. Only expected one file in the form of a sis or sisx.

  • http://www.symbian-guru.com khouryrt

Heh, I fell for those attachments too. No, these aren't the actual file. You have to have html enabled to see that the real link to the .sis file is in the email body “SlideIT_Demo(beta).sisx” :D

Noticed a glitch in Nokia Messaging in that I have it set to html, but the SlideIT e-mail doesn't display right on my N97. Also if I look at the hyperlink at the bottom of the e-mail, Nokia Messaging appears unable to handle a “(” in a hyperlink as this character causes the hyperlink to be cut short.

Interesting, although a little off topic.

  • parno

Well I just installed it from nokia messaging on my phone, never noticed the different attachments. Worked a treat last night, I was mightily impressed. But this morning it was repeating what I swiped over and over and then totally messed up my 5800 and now I am in the process of restoring it as I can't do anything with the phone at all! Not impressed and it just seemed so cool. Quite disappointed now.

I didn't know of them. But it like they provide the same functions.

  • wampyre

    Thanks for adding this information.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to your phone.
I've finally had time to try the application myself.
It went quite flawlessly on my N97.

I noticed under the settings that you can set the default keyboard.
I went with the Nokia keyboard as default and then manually switched on SlideIT.
Taking this precaution as I've already have fontrouter and asian fonts installed
which can easily mess other applications on my phone.
E.g. Happy Wakeup does not work with other fonts installed on phone.

It does take away the purpose of using the keyboard but I personally
found it to be a bit unprecise (Can be due to N97's screen) and the buttons were smaller
and less “responsive” than the virtual keyboard you find in e.g. Opera Mobile,
which I have no problem with despite it being similar in size as SlideIT.

What I find a bit strange is that they say it's a demo but then they say it's a beta. Had I know that it was a beta and not a full demo I would've put a disclaimer of course.

  • parno

You know I might try that. I did set it as default. Even if it goes wrong again I will just do a hard reset, its not that much of a problem.

I'll let you know how I get on.

    Oooo am excited again now!

Thanks for letting us know. It works as a charm, however when SlideIT is installed the */+ button the keypad doesn't work. Noticed it when I was trying to get the IMEI #

I've said so many times that I would never get another Symbian phone, but since SlideIT came out, I tried to reevaluate what I was looking for in a phone.

You can download it here: http://mobiletextinput.com/
