So, Nokia and Symbian have taken quite a beating for the last year or two, especially as the iPhone and Android interfaces get updated and Symbian seemingly sits still. Determined to get an official reaction, our friend Steve Litchfield from AllAboutSymbian headed down to the Symbian Foundation’s London office to get a chat with Lee Williams, Executive Director at Symbian Foundation. Below is the video chat with Lee, or you can read the full transcript here.

What do you think? While I’m a huge Symbian fan (obviously) and I agree with a lot of what Lee says, I think he’s a bit shadowed in some areas, specifically the current Symbian UI. At about 6:50, he correctly says that Symbian has one of the best scroll-and-select UI, and that they’re working to move to a different approach. That’s similar to saying that a device has the best 1.3 megapixel camera on the market. While it might be true, it’s rather irrelevant considering that the new standard is 3 megapixel or higher - in most cases, 1.3 megapixel is laughable, at best.
I’m anxious to see what improvements Symbian^3 brings, as it will be the first version of Symbian to really show the effects of the move from Symbian, Inc to Symbian Foundation, I believe.
