Since Nokia launched its Ovi Store earlier this year, we, along with most everyone else, have taken our share of pot-shots against it. When the store launched, it was pretty easy, as the store’s search function was busted, users couldn’t re-download purchases, and there were several other problems that plagued the store.
To bust this, Nokia’s George Linardos, VP, Product, Media, sat down with several UK-based journalists to chat about where the Ovi Store came from and more importantly, where it’s going. You can read the full article here, but there are a few nuggets that I think are important to know:
- The current Ovi Store is, much like the rest of the Ovi services, somewhat of a patchwork quilt, taking pieces from MOSH, Download!, and WidSets.
- The current Ovi Store was always intended to be an interim solution while the team works on a full Ovi Store 2.0 launch.
- Ovi Store v2.0 will launch in the next few months, and will be 75% written from scratch, and will be updated over a few months to be 100% written from scratch – with no holdovers from these older platforms.
- Ovi Store currently does just under 1 million downloads every day and download numbers have been increasing 100% month-over-month.
- The Ovi Store team has screens in their office with Twitter feeds showing tweets related to the Ovi Store, so they’re very aware of user issues and complaints, and are working on these issues.
What do you think of the Ovi Store? Do you check it often, or have you written it off entirely?
