A word to the wise for everyone using an older version of Mobbler. If you do not subscribe to Last.fm and are using an unpaid login for Mobbler, v0.08.237 WILL NOT WORK. Apparently the latest version uses the new official API which only allows streaming for paying subscribers. I found this out the hard way when I upgraded from 0.07.6187. This version uses the original, unofficial API, and as of right now, still gives streaming access to free users.

I won't go into any more detail, since Ricky actually explained everything very well several months ago: http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2009/03/the…

i had the issue with mobbler v0.08.237 and tried re-installing v0.07.6187. it also denied access :(

  • tsaigao

i subscribe to last.fm, but it's a free trial. if i pay for access to last.fm, will mobbler work? i live in canada

I tried 0.07.6187 again after you posted your comment and it is definitely still working for me. Perhaps your issue is something different. Try deleting your username and password from the settings in Mobbler and enter them again. That is the only thing I can remember doing after I reinstalled v0.07. Can't see how it would matter but give it a shot. This also may be a region-specific problem. I am in the US, where are you?

  • http://iUnlock.com/ Adam@iUnlock

First of all if you're in Canada, on either coast, it's REALLY late. I'm in Boston and it's 5am. But that beg's the question of why am I up too, so I'll leave you alone :)

Anyway, as long as you have a paid subscription to Last.fm, your login should work no matter what version of Mobbler you are using. A subscription is only like $3 per month, so even if that's the only solution for you, it's not a very expensive one. As soon as I can setup a new wireless router in my house so that Mobbler is usable, I plan on subscribing.

We've not changed anything to do with the radio playback, but a small number of people have reported problems with the new version so we are looking into it. Thanks.

  • tsaigao

the problem was it wasn't allowing me to change the settings. it was telling me there was a security issue. no problem now though. yeah i'm going to get a subscription. it is worth it.

Holy crap Michael, that was the most insanely fast product support I have ever experienced. For those of you who haven't clicked his link and read the comments their, Michael and his crew have managed to put out an update, 0.08(241), which completely solves the issues of 0.08(237) -WITHIN 14 HOURS OF THE FIRST COMPLAINT! Fantastic job guys, I hope there's a place I can go to donate in support of your work.

that's cause Mobbler is freakin awesome, Adam. Freakin awesome.

  • phoneguy

I was using this as a paid subscriber and I thought it was cool that apparently some independent developer(s) came up with a Symbian client. Thanks guys!

A request: can you save the last search values and other user-data? It's sucks to type Led Zeppellin in 10 times on a 5800 with no hardware keyboard!

    Keep up the great work!

  • hugovk

    Phoneguy, glad you like it!

Thanks for the request, I've created an issue for it on our tracker, let's see if someone implements it: http://code.google.com/p/mobbler/issues/detail?…

  • hugovk

OK, I've now implemented that, it'll be in the next release.
