If you’ve been using the AccuWeather widget on your Nokia N97 or N97 Mini, you’ve noticed there’s a small ad slot towards the bottom of the widget. Eagle-eyed Derek Hoffer noticed this, and was quite surprised to see an ad for the Nokia Saga, an unannounced touchscreen smartphone with what appears to be a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and support for Nokia Messaging.
Unfortunately, the ad is quite tiny, so we can’t glean much info, but it looks as though the Saga is somewhat of a merger between the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and the Nokia E75. It looks as though the top part of the phone simply slides straight up to reveal the keyboard, as opposed to the tilt feature on the N97 or N97 Mini. Given the marketing campaign for Nokia Messaging with it, the Nokia Saga could be the first touchscreen Eseries, which would definitely be cool. It could also simply be a branded version of the Nokia N97 or N97 Mini, though, as Nokia does not typically name their smartphones.
What do you think? Does the Nokia Saga look like something you would like to see, or do you think it’s just a branded version of the N97 or N97 Mini? There is a Nokia keynote at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show later today, perhaps they’ll announce the Nokia Saga then.
UPDATE: We’ve confirmed with our Nokia contacts that the device pictured is indeed the Nokia N97 Mini. The ad was apparently a mistake, and not indicative of any forthcoming announcements. Sorry to get your hopes up, folks.
