We’ve talked about the Symbian Ideas website before – it’s a great way for you to jump right into the Symbian Foundation and contribute, especially if you’re not a coder but have great ideas. To date, over 1000 ideas have been submitted, voted on, and commented on since the site launched back in October 2009. Since then, 8 of the ideas are currently being implemented into the Symbian platform, and an additional 21 have been validated and are merely waiting for someone with the know-how to get it done.
Of those 8 that are being implemented, you’ll be glad to see some favorites. For starters, Symbian^3 will include the ability to automatically pause your music if your headphones come unplugged, instead of blaring your tunes to everyone around you. Symbian^4 will also include two popular requests, including the ability to change the default browser (contributed by the folks at Opera) and the ability to synchronize your phonebook with Facebook, thanks to Nokia.
I’m also personally pleased to see that the S60 Ambassadors program is also being revived as Symbian Messengers, to launch very shortly. I was one of the initial team behind the S60 Ambassadors team, and actively share my enthusiasm for Symbian with anyone I meet still to this day, so hopefully I can get plugged into the Symbian Messengers program, as well.
What are your favorite Symbian Ideas? Do you have one that hasn’t been submitted?
