Does this work on Symbian S60v5 as well?

Yep, if you watch the embedded video, I've demo'd it on both the Nokia E72 and the Nokia N97 Mini.

Thanks for the information! this was quite needed… and as you said, foursquare is a useless but addictive app :)

Uhm, interesting that this post and announcement from Waze comes now and not earlier – it's been possible to use Foursquare with Waze for a week or so already. I even managed to earn the Waze Road Warrior badge during last weekend, hooray! It was a pure accident though…but hooray anyway!

Well, I'll say straight up I'm not impressed with Waze on a v5 device.

From the first five minutes of use:
    * Does not handle landscape mode correctly during setup,
    * data entry goes off the edge of the screen
    * interface needs some serious refinement, particularly during the setup phase
    * does not handle long hold of key to use symbol, nor does it allow use of the symbol option – you have to use their on-screen keyboard
    * on-screen keyboard remains shown when using the N97 in keyboard mode
    * no clear indicator that there is a need to scroll, nor a position indicator when you have scrolled
    * four square registration screen needs serious refinment, does not make it clear that it will automatically try and connect you once you've entered a username and password – which is just bad UX.

Sorry, but this is an application which is nowhere near ready for prime time. Someone needs to go right back to basics and deliver this app the refinement it so desperately needs.

What firmware are you running on your N97? I've used it on both my N97 (v20) and N97 Mini (v10 and v11) and had none of the freezing issues you've mentioned.

They do, as you mentioned, use their own UI instead of the default one, though I rather like that, as in landscape mode on S60v5, there is disgusting amounts of wasted space, for the most part.

In any case, to each his own. I use Waze on my N97 Mini every day nearly and it runs fine.

Going to the Waze site on my PC to install from my PC to my N97 won't work. Waze does not list the N97 as a compatible device. It works fine by going to m.waze.com on my N97 but be warned, it takes a good amount of time to install as compared to doing it from the PC. Make sure you are in an area with a good network connection and not moving.

I would also suggest loading Maps Booster from Ovi Store. It helps get your GPS position much quicker even if you are indoors. I get my loaction first from Ovi Maps or the built in location tool and then open Waze.

Can't check in Foursquare, waze asks me for a usename, but it seems I don't have one, in foursquare I only set up First and Last name…

    Thank you sir!

I've had the exact same issue with the Waze application. Half the time it doesn't recognize my network connection or my GPS (though other apps have no issue from the same location). It also freezes my phone (5800 v31) and causes it to shut down.

It's sad as I had such high hopes for this app. I manage several social media accounts — fousquare being one of them — and don't want to cave on getting an Android device or iPhone.
