Another way is to use something like the free Tweets60 — create a draft tweet and enter a URL, it’ll then shorten it with bit.ly and you can copy and paste it in the same way.

As long as there is no easy way to extract the URL on an E71 from a site in Nokia' browser or Opera Mobile for that matter it will remain a nuisance to forward links. Against that backdrop Shorten doesn't really make a difference.

Peter you're right. It's not easy to extract the 'long' URL from the S60 browser. On my E75 I use this workaround: 1. Save the a bookmark of the page, 2. copy the URL from the saved bookmark and 3. paste it into Shorten. It's a complicated way, but I don't know an easier way…
Some clicks can be saved by using the browser keypad shortcuts 'Save as bookmark' and 'Bookmark manager'. They can be configured via web browsers 'Settings' menu in the 'Keypad shortcuts' tab. Alternatively these tasks can be configured in the browsers Toolbar (activation by long click on empty area) vie 'Settings -> Toolbar shortcuts'.

Must have been to tired when I wrote the first comment about extracting the currently visited URL from the S60 'standard' web browser… It's easy ;-) Just select:
Options -> Web page options -> Send: Via message
The messaging texts/SMS editor is opened with the URL in the body. Just highlight the URL and copy it to clipboard by long press on # key and copy.
    That's it ;-)

    What theme is that?

Whatever is good, finds it way to the not so good side too. So many links I have seen that people post shortened and it is very much impossible to say where they actually lead you to. So depending on site or chat system, caution should be excercised when accessing shortened links, with the poster promising it goes to something that should be ok. But this is how it goes, internet can be dangerous =o…
