Earlier tonight, just before going to bed, I checked the Software Update tool on my Nokia N97. I don’t check this often, maybe once a week or so. Normally there’s nothing new here, but this evening I noticed a new update available – Ovi Music v11.4, apparently.
The Ovi Music update is small, only 497k, and installed rather quickly, apparently to my internal storage. However, I can’t for the life of me see what it actually did. Even after rebooting my phone, there are no new icons to be found anywhere in my menus, nor are there any obvious changes to the built-in music player on my phone.
A quick google found mention of this over at Nokia 5800 Downloads, but it’s referencing the Nokia Music Store, which has been renamed to Ovi Music in a few countries. My Nokia N97 is a NAM unit, and I’ve never changed the product code on it or anything. The Nokia Music Store is not launched in the United States, so why would this update be released for a NAM product code?
I’ve reached out to my Nokia contacts to see if I can shed some light on this, but if you know anything about this update, please feel free to share in the comments below.
UPDATE: I received word back from my Nokia contacts that this is a global update that was released yesterday for all markets. Ovi Music 11.4 adds the ability to download an entire album from the Nokia Music Store, rather than having to download each track separately.
