We caught wind of the Nokia E73 Mode for T-Mobile USA a few weeks ago, and today Nokia and T-Mobile made the QWERTY device official. The E73 is, as we assumed, essentially a Nokia E72 that has been slightly customized for T-Mobile USA. The front design has been tweaked slightly, and the E73 Mode supports T-Mobile’s oddball 3G service with 1700/2100MHz 3G support.
The Nokia E73 Mode is also the first Symbian-powered device to support T-Mobile’s unique UMA WiFi calling, which allows you to seamlessly transfer calls between T-Mobile’s nationwide cellular network and a local WiFi network – certainly an awesome feature. Aside from that, the E73 Mode includes a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, standard 3.5mm audio port for stereo headphones, and a built-in GPS receiver.
Nokia does much better with T-Mobile relations than it does with AT&T relations, and the E73 Mode will ship with several of Nokia’s services pre-installed, including Ovi Maps with free voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation, Ovi Store, and Nokia Messaging. The Nokia E73 Mode is expected to be available on June 16th from T-Mobile USA and will be priced an an affordable $69.99 with 2-year commitment, which means it’ll likely be available for free from most indirect agents, such as Amazon.com or Best Buy.
What do you think about the E73 Mode? Is this a major win, or a big yawn?
